A practical checklist for arranging consultations, early reviews, transport, support, and communication when choosing a clinic outside your home city.

Map the full care pathway, not just the procedure date. Note the consultation, tests, operation, first wound check, later review, and the place you would go if a concern appears after you return home.
Clinics in neighbouring countries can be practical, but distance changes the logistics of follow-up. Ask whether the surgeon needs to see you in person, what records you receive, and how the clinic coordinates with a local doctor.
Arrange a companion or professional transport for the early period, particularly after anaesthesia or procedures that limit bending and lifting. Keep the clinic's written instructions, medicines, and emergency number accessible.
Avoid making a long journey immediately after surgery unless the operating team specifically clears it. Plan for rest stops, help with bags, and a way to reach urgent care without depending on public transport.
Ask for the operative note, discharge summary, medication list, product or implant card, and follow-up instructions. Store the clinic's contact details and the name of the treating surgeon with these records.
If a clinic's answer is vague about complications, revisions, or who is responsible after discharge, treat that as a reason to pause. Good aftercare is part of the procedure, not an optional add-on.
